The first generation of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas remains one of the most overlooked watches of the holy trinity to this day. Not only the depth of production and the many refinements of the watch, but also the sheer aesthetics of the Dino Modolo / Vincent Kaufmann design make the watch the best neo vintage sports watch from the holy trinity (opinion). The reference 42040 offered here is in beautiful condition and bears the rarest dial used in this reference, the salmon dial. The case of the watch is in beautiful, clean condition. It is also the larger version with 37 millimeters. The strap shows little stretch. It is the correct MKI strap, with the complex double safety folding clasp with the pushers, which locks or allows opening. Unfortunately, service straps are regularly found on this watch. This is the original one. The dial is in beautiful condition and shows no patina. The hands are slightly tarnished. The cover is still beautifully sharp-edged and shows the Italian training ship Americo Vespucci, which is named after the legendary explorer and emphasizes the character of the watch. For more detailed background information, I recommend my YouTube video guide to this model and the reference guide from watchbrotherslondon.
