The Audemars Piguet Ref. 25720 Star Wheel is one of the most unconventional timepieces ever produced by the brand. Introduced in the early 1990s it shows the beloved wandering hours complication.
Instead of traditional hands, the Star Wheel uses three sapphire discs, each rotating around the dial, to display the hour as it "wanders" along a fixed minute track. Housed in a classically styled 36 mm case the Ref. 25720 is understated in size but rich in detail, from its fine guilloché dials to its beautifully finished automatic movement.
This very example is in immaculate condition with a beautiful case featuring super crisp hallmarks to the side of the case, and light red patina to the bezel, midcase and caseback, indicating that the watch has not been polished. The guilloche dial as well as the sapphire disks and the white minute track are perfectly preserved and show no signs of wear or patina. It has been serviced before it was publicly sold at Phillips in 2022 and stayed in the collection until recently. It's accompanied by the Phillips signed strap as well as the original Audemars Piguet buckle, on request I'll be happy to add a period correct folding clasp.
Our archive collection consists of the most important watches we’ve had the pleasure to sell.
